Lattice, Screen, and Trim

Part of the Newari craftsmanship is their ability to make beautiful wooden screens. Classically these were placed in windows as a means of protecting the privacy of those inside while still allowing the people inside illumination as well as a view of the outside. The screens called “jali” come in several different designs and intricate interlocking patters (shown below).
